Professional and management issues in the survey and control of nosocomial infections in general surgery hospitals.

Nosocomial infections (NI) are evidenced in health care facilities around the world as representing the main health and mortality problem in the assisted patients. This prompts for the constant monitoring of NI and implementing preventive and control measures. We designed and administered a 10-item questionnaire referring to NI to the health care personnel of two general surgery units from municipal two hospitals (A and B). The results proved to be poor, especially for hospital B. We investigated the measures against the sources of infection, pathogen carriers and ways of transmission, as well as the management of patients with increased susceptibility to NI. The use of antibiotics and disinfectants was also studied.
